There are over 5,000 residents living in Ivybridge Estate, Hounslow – an area synonymous with criminality and anti-social behaviour.

Capture Minds’ first ever
programme began May 2021!

The project offers a range of activity for local residents including a homework club, youth hub and community fair(s). The project is a direct consequence of the complex needs and issues raised by key-stakeholders in the area including residents and the local council.

The programme has provided a new lease of life for children, young people and families in the local area – with improvements in mental wellbeing, social skills and confidence. Children and young people have improved academic performance and obtained key life skills.

OUR APPROACH

Resident Consultation

The activities and services are unique to different  groups and individuals, based on the needs and  requirements of the local Ivybridge community,  established during on-going consultations with  residents and evaluation of the ‘pilot year’  project back in July 2021.

The activities and support of local residents is  split into three age groups; 7-14-year olds, 14-18- year olds and parents and guardians living in the  community.

One-to-one Needs Assessments

For all activities, we conduct an initial one-to-one  comprehensive needs assessment with all  children, young people and parents/guardians,  subject to monthly re-assessment following  completion milestones and achievements.

Once this is done, key staff work collaboratively  to create a structured action plan based on the  complex needs of beneficiaries to provide  targeted support though identified activities.

Homework Club (7-14-year-olds)

Children benefit from dedicated 2-hour homework club support sessions every Saturday  at the local Bridgelink centre.

To complement traditional curriculum learning,  children and young people are encouraged to  develop their critical thinking, research expertise  and open-mindedness with 15-30 minutes of live  debates and/or presentations based on fun and  relevant topics given by tutors.

Youth Club (14-18-year-olds)

Young people benefit from 2-hour weekly youth  club with activities including; workshops,  mentorship and termly team-building trips.

The workshops include interactive sessions and  debates on topics including mindfulness,  entrepreneurship and financial literacy that are  designed to inspire and empower young people.

Young people are designated a mentor and  career professional that provides one-to-one  personal and career support in a private setting.

Community building fairs

All residents in the Ivybridge benefit from community fairs and parties that take place seasonally with previous activities including face painting, bouncy castle, live shows and food/refreshments.

The community fairs are a central component to improve community contact and mutual support between local families as residents come together and socialise.
